Sneak Peek

For almost my entire career I've written picture books or easy readers. In fact, I still do. But I'm also trying something entirely new. And it's great! I've polished one young middle grade manuscript and another STEM manuscript where a group of sixth-grade students work with research scientists in the field.

As with many of my nonfiction picture books, scientists have graciously provided me with information about their work. It's one thing to imagine a story, it's a totally different project when you want to excite kids about the real world and what they can do. It always surprises me that no matter how busy these scientists are, they not only take time to Zoom or email with me, but they are truly excited to share what they do in hopes that it will inspire a new generation to look at science as a possible career path.

I have no idea if either of these manuscripts will get accepted. Authors never do. But I'm enjoying this journey and, of course, learning much along the way.

Fingers crossed that one day soon I can share a pub date for one of these projects. In the meantime, I'm writing every day.
